Week 6 — The Story You Have Built

Before We Break

A STRONGER TOMORROW IS STILL POSSIBLE.

THE WEEKLY REFLECTION · ISSUE 06

The Story You Have Built

There’s always more than one perspective.

Everyone in a struggling marriage has a story about who’s right and who’s wrong. The challenge is that your story isn’t the only one.

This week, try writing your spouse’s version of events, as fairly as you can. It’s uncomfortable, but it can be clarifying. Treat it as a possibility to check, not proof that you know what they think.

“Understanding another perspective can make room for a different conversation.”

01 · This week’s exercise

Write your spouse’s version of your current struggles, as fairly as possible. Separate what you know from what you’re assuming.

02 · Conversation question

“How do you see what’s been happening between us?”

03 · This week’s challenge

Look for one place where their perspective makes sense, even if you don’t agree with everything. Understanding does not cancel accountability.

Try shared exercises only when both people can speak freely and safely. If a conversation feels unsafe, skip it and seek individual support.
