Week 8 — Behavior Is Not Identity

Before We Break

A STRONGER TOMORROW IS STILL POSSIBLE.

THE WEEKLY REFLECTION · ISSUE 08

Behavior Is Not Identity

People can change, and hard seasons don’t define a person.

It’s easy to let frustration turn into contempt, and to start seeing your spouse’s worst behaviors as who they are. But behavior is not identity.

This week, let’s separate what they do from who they are — and consider the possibility of growth, for both of you. Noticing a good quality does not require you to excuse harm or ignore a pattern.

“People are more than their worst days.”

01 · This week’s exercise

Write down a behavior that frustrates you, then list at least one positive quality that also exists alongside it.

02 · Conversation question

“When do you feel most like yourself in our marriage?”

03 · This week’s challenge

Notice one moment this week where your spouse shows a good quality — and let them know you saw it, if that feels safe.

Try shared exercises only when both people can speak freely and safely. If a conversation feels unsafe, skip it and seek individual support.
